Resham Gali, Hectic Place

By: Iqbal Jarwar

One night, I was in deep slumber. My conscious secluded from the world. It looked to me as if I had entered a new world. I was profoundly absorbed in its colors. It was a dream but it was not less then real. I saw myself flabbergasted, I saw women completely lost in shopping, buying clothes, bangles, cosmetics, perfumes etc.
I asked a friend of mine about it that what is happening here. He answered in a very low tone that dear this is Resham Gali of Tando Allahyar.
At one hand customers especially women were buying different things according to their economic position but nevertheless they were following parsimony, while on the other hand shopkeepers were making every possible effort to make them agree to buy goods at their own liking. This whole situation surprised me and I was heavily inspired by it.
Suddenly, I got up. It was dawn and my dream became apart of past. But I decided to pay a visit and I reached there.
I saw the same scenario as it was in dream. I thought that my dream has come true.
I decided to meet president of Resham Gali and found Ishtiaque Kaimkhani as President. I found him also busy in dealing customers, so I was compelled to wait some time.
After dealing customers, he greeted me and asked what type of clothes would I like to buy? I told him that sir I wanted to get information about Resham Gali which is located in the heart of city. Seeing my curiosity he guided me and provided required data.
Resham Gali was constructed in 1985 and before it there was an old market constructed where an old market use to occur before independence.
Resham Gali has six markets; Fayaz market, Ayaz market, Memoin para market etc. Seeing so much rush I imagined that there might be the season of wedding ceremonies that’s why everyone was busy in shopping specially women were major part of this shopping. When I asked him about the attitude of women in buying different things, I was informed an interesting history that now a days there was a rapidly growing tendency that man's clothes were being purchased by women.
In doing so the women were usually following parsimony, which made the shopkeepers more hardworking in convincing customers. That’s why the shopkeepers have to be very active, convincing and vigilant.
I was so much surprised when I saw a sticker on which a golden sentence in urdu was written saying "udhaar ek jadu he agar hum aap ko denge to aap gaaib ho jaaenge".
This clearly indicated that shopkeepers were not ready to land goods on borrow. I imagined the situation that there may be a growing tendency on borrowing which may be the reason that they adhered this sticker to hamper on borrowing because it might halted there business.
The Resham Gali has a CC block street, well organized drainage system etc. These all facilities were provided by former government but the present government has taken no steps as yet in this regard.
Ishtiq Kaimkhani is the only nominal president of it for two years there is no registered community as yet.
Therefore our government must come forward to facilitate them so that they may compete with other markets.
